The statements of each of our three candidates for the three open positions are below the ballot itself.
Hello, my name is Sigrid Flatness.
I’ve been playing pickleball for a couple years now in SCOV. I remember my beginner instructor saying “pickleball is addicting!” and I thought to myself, “really?” Well it’s true! It is addicting, not only for the physical activity it provides but also for the opportunity to meet new friends and have FUN. To me that’s what it’s about, having fun and getting out and enjoying this wonderful weather.
Currently I’m a casual player with ambitions of playing eventually at a more competitive level. If elected as a board member I would like to represent the casual player who is looking to enjoy playing at a less intense level but nonetheless playing to increase their skill level.
I am a Registered Nurse with a diploma degree in addition to a BA in Business Admin from the University of Washington. Afterworking for 40+ years as a nurse and in Human Resources it was time to retire and enjoy life. Husband Dave and I moved full time from Issaquah, Washington and the Seattle area to this special place, SCOV in 2015. With my background in nursing, operational management and human resources, I feel I’ll be able
contribute to the administration of the Pickleball Club.
I have lived in Sun City OV since July 2015 and have been active in the club for almost as long. My wife Sharon and I have been married for 35 wonderful years and have two married daughters living in Texas. My hobbies are hiking, astronomy, stained glass, woodworking and of course PICKLEBALL. I can play with casual and competitive competition and am always willing to help out a new player. Some of my goals on the BOD would be to continue training with new and experienced players and possibly getting competitive tournaments with Saddlebrook or Saddlebrook Ranch.
When we moved here, we did not realize there is Community both on and off the courts. We enjoyed living here and look forward to your vote. PICKLE ON!!!!!!!
Before moving here, my wife and I lived in Washougal, Washington for about 10 years. Washougal recently converted a couple old dilapidated tennis court into six pickleball courts. The courts were in a park that I would often pass through on my bike. I’d see all these older people out there pickling away. I thought “Geezer Tennis,” and continued my ride. But they looked like they were having a great time, and so I decided to give it a try. I had fun, made some new friends, and have been hooked ever since. I have been coming to the SCOV for several years to visit in-laws who have
been here since 1993. When my wife first started talking about moving here, I was pretty sure I didn’t want to. But on our last visit here, I borrowed my mother-in-law’s SCOV keycard, and had a fun time on the pickleball courts. It was pickleball, plus all the great people I met here that changed my mind. Two summers ago we sold our home in Washougal, Washington and bought a place in Sun City. What else about me? For the past 12 years I have been employed as a Professional Wetland Scientist. Before that I’ve been working as a Fisheries Biologist in Alaska, American Samoa, Oregon and Washington. I would be honored to serve on the SCOV pickleball board. John McConnaughey
